Born in Accrington, Lancashire, in 1911, Dennis Duckworth developed his own distinctive styles of work over many years. His art has a largely modernist cubist influence; his subjects sourced from memories, observations and studies from his personal and professional life. The landscape of Northern England which he grew up within remained a passion throughout his life; as has the architecture and cultural climate of London where he spent the majority of his ministry with the New Church (Swedenborgian) for over fifty years. Throughout his ministry he found his artwork a useful and fullfilling medium with which to represent many of the spiritual doctrines contained within the Bible and the works of the 18th century Swedish theologian Emanuel Swedenborg.

"Much of my work is experimental in its style and treatment, and involves a considerable use of hard black Conté crayon with much shading, together with watercolour wash. Much play is made of the straight sharp edge of a line, contrasted with the soft shadings, giving a cubist or three dimensional effect."
